ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS

​The Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundations awards sixty-five Endowed Scholarships. These scholarships are funded through earnings on a one time donation of $15,000 or by a series of donations totaling $15,000 or more made to our Endowment Fund. These donations allow us to offer these scholarships each year without any further contributions required.

HONORS SCHOLARSHIP

The Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation awards a scholarship to every graduating senior from Knoxville, Iowa High School that applies for one. We currently have 65 Named Scholarships and 62 Endowed Scholarships for a total of 127 scholarships. If more than 127students apply for scholarships, we award Honors Scholarships to make up the difference. The money to support these scholarships comes from our general fund.

PANTHER PRIDE SCHOLARSHIP

In 2011 the Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation Board began an initiative to encourage graduating classes of Knoxville High School to consider funding scholarships on an annual basis for our high school graduates.  We decided to name these financial awards Panther Pride Scholarships.  Knoxville High School graduates are able to make donations to the Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation and designate those donations to go toward their graduating class Panther Pride Scholarship.  Once contributions have reached a minimum of $500, we will begin awarding a scholarship in the name of that class and will continue to do so on an annual basis as long as the minimum ($500) is met.

CONTINUING SCHOLARSHIPS

Don and Margaret Long Second Year Scholarship - For 2nd Year Knoxville College Students!
Don and Margaret Long established a special scholarship award for Knoxville graduates entering their second year of higher education.  Eligible students must apply and meet the required criteria.  Through the Long’s generous support, second year students can receive a monetary award when often times they have exhausted all their   scholarship awards during their first year of higher education.

Marylin Murphy Memorial Scholarship
Marilyn Murphy, daughter of John and Carolyn Murphy, graduated from Knoxville High School in 1985. She received her degree in music performance from Truman State University. Following her masters work at Arizona State, Marilyn entered the Peace Corps. She was deeply involved in community activities and devoted her life to improving the lives of others through her work with the Peace Corps and with Heifer International.

Marilyn passed away in 2010 after a nine-year battle with breast cancer. The Marilyn Murphy Memorial Scholarship is given to a Knoxville High School graduate in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of college pursuing a degree in music and who has demonstrated a commitment to community service.

Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation Third and Fourth Year Scholarships
The Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation is providing a new Scholarship Award beginning at the 2015 Awards Banquet.  This new scholarship will be available to former Knoxville graduates in their third and fourth years of higher education.

The Third Year Scholarship will be funded by earnings from our endowment fund.  Monetary awards will be determined based on how many students apply and meet the required criteria along with funds available from the endowment fund.

Don and Jo Fuerhoff “Foundation through Education” Endowed Scholarship
Don and Jo Fuerhoff spent their careers as educators. Their devotion to their students and their service to the Knoxville community was truly exemplary.

This endowed scholarship is funded through memorial contributions made by their family and friends at the time of Don’s passing in August of 2014.

The Don and Jo Fuerhoff “Foundation through Education” Endowed Scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis to a college student in his or her final year of study in preparation for their career as a classroom teacher.  Applications for this scholarship are due annually by April 1st.

Clayton Harsin Memorial Scholarship
The Clayton Harsin Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a Knoxville High School graduate pursuing a career in either criminal justice, or in the field of automotive mechanics. Preference will be given to students in their second, third or fourth year of study.

Clayton Harsin graduated from Knoxville High School in 2012. His passion during his high school and college years involved “fixing up” automobiles. Clayton enjoyed purchasing a car, getting it in good running order and then selling it for a profit. His entrepreneurial spirit also led him to establish his own mobile auto detailing business. These endeavors, along with his job at Karl Chevrolet in Ankeny, allowed him to help pay his way through college.
              
​Clayton was in his last term studying criminal justice at the time of his death on August 3rd, 2014 as a result of a hit and run accident while riding his motorcycle. This scholarship is given by Clayton’s family as a way to honor his memory and as a means of helping a Knoxville High School graduate pursue their post-secondary education.

Alberta McMulin Memorial Scholarship 
The Alberta McMulin Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a Knoxville High School graduate entering either their second or third year in preparation for a career in nursing. 

Alberta (McVey) McMulin graduated from Knoxville High School in 1951. After graduating from Broadlawns School of Nursing, she accepted nursing positions in Chicago and St. Louis before returning to work at the Veterans Hospital in Knoxville. Alberta spent 33 years providing exceptional service to the veterans entrusted to her care. Following her retirement from the VA system, Alberta worked for the Knoxville Community Hospital for an additional ten years.
​
This endowed scholarship is provided by her family in honor of the over 50 years Alberta devoted to the care of others.

Gilliland Family Endowed Scholarship
The Gilliland Family Endowed Scholarship has been established with gratitude to the Knoxville Community School District for generations of quality education by members of the Gilliland Family who are all Knoxville High School graduates.  Carmen (Coolley) Gilliland '41, was a lifelong Knoxville resident who served as Assistant City Clerk for 30 years.  Marvin D. Gilliland '60, has enjoyed a success full career of over 50 years in wealth management services,  Virginia (Mettler) Gilliland ’58, is a homemaker and lifelong community  volunteer for a variety of organizations.  John Gilliland '85, earned his B.A. at Cornell College, his J.D. at Creighton University, served as an attorney in government affairs for 20 years and is currently employed in the financial services industry.  Jennifer  (Gilliland) Cappos '86, earned her Masters in Social Work at the University of Iowa, served as a social worker for 13 years and is currently a realtor in Lincoln, NE.  Jessica (Gilliland) Brandon ’88, earned her B.A. in English from the University of Southern Mississippi and is a teacher's assistant in Ames, IA.  

​The Gilliland Family Endowed Scholarship will be awarded annually to a Knoxville High School graduate entering either their third or fourth year of post-secondary education.​

​Leon and Martha Dyer Langebartels Endowed Memorial Scholarship
Leon and Martha Dyer Langebartels were both members of the Knoxville High School Class of 1949. Leon and Martha both attended Iowa State University, Leon received degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Architectural Engineering. Martha studied in the field of Family and Consumer Sciences. This scholarship is provided by their family to students studying at Iowa State University in  their third or fourth year of study with a major in any of the following fields:
Agriculture, Architecture, Education, Engineering or Family and Consumer Sciences.

​​Ralph and Marilyn Capitani Memorial Scholarship
Ralph and Marilyn Capitani spent their careers as teachers in the Knoxville Community School District. Ralph also served for many years as the promoter for the Knoxville Race Track. This scholarship is provided by their family and friends to Knoxville High school graduates entering their third or fourth year of study in the field of education. Special emphasis will be given to students who worked at the Knoxville Race Track during their high school years. 

William Dean Bacus Memorial Scholarship
The William Dean Bacus Memorial scholarship has been established by his family to honor Williams memory by providing a scholarship to a Knoxville High School graduate entering either his/her third or fourth year of post-secondary education.

William (Bill) was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa in 1950. He was a member of the Knoxville High School Class of 1968.While in high school Bill was active in Panther Club and Pep Club and played football and baseball and ran track. After graduation Bill briefly attended Truman State University in Kirksville, MO. where he began preparation for a career in criminology. The country was involved in the war in Vietnam and William decided to serve his country and enlisted in the Air Force.

Bill became an accomplished air traffic control specialist while serving in the Air force. After completing his military service, Bill began preparation to become an air traffic controller. However, his dreams were cut short when Bill passed away as a result of a traffic accident in 1975.

This scholarship will be awarded annually to a KHS graduate with an emphasis given to students pursuing a career in criminology, sociology or to students in a pre-med program.

Julie Witzman Albert Scholarship
​The Julie Witzman Albert Scholarship is established in Julie’s honor by her mother Pat Witzman. Julie is a 1981 Knoxville High school graduate. This scholarship will be awarded to a Knoxville High School graduate pursuing a career in nursing or a related medical profession in either their third or fourth year of post-secondary education.

Clyde E. Prichard, Sr. Memorial Scholarship
The family of Clyde E. Prichard, Sr. are proud to offer a yearly $500 memorial scholarship in his honor through the Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation.  The scholarship is awarded to a 3rd or 4th year post secondary student pursuing either a career in education or educational administration.
